VLC player finally reaches a very expected: the availability of a version of Android. Unfortunately, only some users can test it.
VLC (VideoLAN Client) Media Player is a media player offered on 20 platforms: Windows, GNU / Linux, Mac OS X … and recently IOS. Besides the fact that this software is open source, it includes many codecs for most video and audio formats. Its success is such that it would allocate 50 million estimated users.
Its porting Android is a very long history. Our first article on this subject dates back to March 2010! Since then, several articles have succeeded, but never get to see this tool. But the approaching end of the tunnel seems, since a public version is not far off. In the meantime, a beta test version is available … but only for those who requested an invitation and have been accepted.
Processors now have the necessary elements (combination of hardware accelerated codecs +) to play videos smoothly. But the extent of the codecs is highly variable and often lack the famous MKV High Profile, which is used for video in 720p and 1080p. Or have a smartphone with an HDMI output and without this feature loses much of its appeal.
But VLCest highly anticipated because it will support new formats. It will not be a physical medium, but software. Specifically decoding is possible, but no indication that the report will be fluid. Although the processors are dual core (like the nVidia Tegra 2), their power is not always sufficient to decode in software HD content.
VLC will then make its contribution to the building, but the material constraints could drop user expectations. In the meantime, feel free to post to request an invitation !
